Big Fun with Big Local
BIG FUN came to Riddlesden thanks to Big Local and the village’s cricket club. Riddlesden Cricket Club hosted a summer fun day for families at their ground on the banks of the River Aire.
The event, which included the teenage Keighley rock band Awkward, raised money for Manorlands. Attractions also included a dunking stool. Cricket team members were helped in running the day by staff from Silsden, Wilsden and Ilkley Co-op stores
Keighley Big Local, which operates in Keighley Valley areas including Riddlesden, supported the event with a small grant to cover the cost of the inflatables. Big Local Partnership member and outdoor activities leader Greg Hoyle volunteered archery sessions.
Big Local coordinator Shaun O’Hare said: “The Keighley Big Local Partnership know that one of the most effective ways to deliver the Big Local Plan is to team up and support organisations that are already doing great work, helping them to achieve even more.
“The small grant towards the cost of the inflatables meant the cricket club could maximise fundraising on the day. But it’s more about people working together and sharing their skills.Having Awkward on the stage really lifted the atmosphere, and the sessions really added to a well-organised fantastic day.”
Club secretary Bernadette Stenton said £65 was donated by families and residents through a Just Giving page. She added: “We raised just over £900 on the day including the Just Giving, which is a great achievement.
“I would like to thank everyone including family and friends from the bottom of my heart, for a great day, and for the continuous support they all give for this worthy cause. A big thank you to the Big Local band Awkward and Jam on Top, they were amazing and got the fun day buzzing from the start until the finish.”
Big Local and the Cricket Club will continue to work together on a number of projects including a music festival entitled RiddFest!, and using the club house to deliver activities for older people.
Keighley Big Local has a bank of equipment and items that can be borrowed by any organised groups in the Big Local area. Email email@example.com for further information on how Big Local can help.
