Welcome Walk 6

July 28th Riddlesden circular via How beck, West Morton and Sunny Dale, Approx. 5 miles. 

Meet outside the Marques of Granby Public House, (Hospital Rd.) Riddlesden (By the Canal) @6pm. 

The first mile and a half involves a steady climb up the valley side, but it’s worth the climb for the panoramic views. The route heads up Hospital Rd, to the site of the old Fever hospital, then climbs up through a couple of Meadows following How Beck, up to the edge of the hamlet of West Morton, this is then followed by another steady climb through meadows up to Moorside farm, from here, we follow the old Ilkley for a quarter mile or so before branching off and following a farm track to a wooded area on the edge of Rombalds Moor known as The Glen. From here we follow a path (uneven in places) through the Glen over to Sunnydale Reservoir and then follow a series of tracks and paths through meadows back towards West Morton, where we follow the Ancient Bridleway known as Bury Lane, and then head down Swine lane and walk along the canal towpath before finishing the walk back at the Marques of Granby Swing Bridge.
